What a BFM® Fitting Certified Advisor Means for Your Application
A flexible connector can look simple until the application involves equipment movement, cleaning requirements, unusual installation conditions, sleeve-material questions, or a connection that has already caused problems on the line.
That’s where experience and product knowledge matter. PSI is an authorized BFM® fitting distributor, and Kyle Alger, Rich Powell, and Brittney Hagensick have completed official training as BFM® fitting Certified Advisors.
What’s the Difference Between an Authorized Distributor and a Certified Advisor?
An authorized distributor relationship belongs to the company. A BFM® fitting Certified Advisor credential belongs to the individual who completed the training.
Both serve different purposes. As the #1 authorized U.S. distributor of BFM® fittings, we provide access to genuine BFM® fittings and support for new, retrofit, and custom applications.
A Certified Advisor designation identifies the team members who completed official BFM® fitting training in connector selection, measurement, installation, and sleeve-material selection.
In short: An authorized distributor gives you access to BFM® fittings. A BFM® fitting Certified Advisor gives you someone individually trained in how those fittings are selected, measured, and installed.
What the Certified Advisors Help You Evaluate
Kyle, Rich, and Brittney each walk through three things before recommending a fitting.
Sleeve Material Selection
Temperature, cleaning methods, powder characteristics, static, and abrasion can all influence which sleeve material is best suited for a connection.
Certified Advisors are trained on the BFM® fitting material range and can help identify materials that fit your operating conditions.
Connector Size and Fit
A connector can have the right diameter and still be the wrong fit for the application. Length, available space, movement, alignment, offset, and installation gap can all affect performance once the equipment is running.
BFM® fitting installation guidance notes that the installation gap should be slightly shorter than the connector length and should account for movement or offset at the connection point. Certified Advisors evaluate those factors before a connector is selected.
Installation and Long-Term Performance
The way a connector is installed can affect how well it performs over time. Alignment, installation gap, and movement at the connection point all play a role in fit, changeovers, cleaning, and maintenance.
Certified Advisors evaluate those conditions before a connector is ordered or installed.
When It’s Worth Talking With a Certified Advisor
Any application is worth a quick question, and it’s especially useful to loop in a Certified Advisor before you place an order if you’re working through:
- Equipment movement or misalignment between connection points
- A nonstandard installation gap, tight space, or unusual equipment geometry
- Vacuum or pressure changes that can affect connector shape and support needs
- New operating conditions, including temperature, cleaning practices, static, or abrasion, that raise sleeve-material questions
- A connector that leaks, wears early, collapses, or won’t stay in position
- A new installation, retrofit, or effort to standardize fittings across multiple transfer points
A connector is often where a process problem first shows up. Reviewing the equipment, operating conditions, and installation details before ordering can help prevent repeat maintenance issues.

Start With a Conversation
Whether you’re installing BFM® fittings for the first time or revisiting a connection that hasn’t performed as expected, the right questions early can save time later.
Connect with a PSI BFM® fitting Certified Advisor to review your application, discuss the conditions at the connection point, and identify the next step before placing an order.
Quick Answers About BFM® fitting Certification
BFM® fitting certification is held by the individual advisor, not by PSI as an organization. It identifies the advisors by name because the certification reflects the training that person completed.
A BFM® fitting Certified Advisor learns through a program delivered directly by BFM® fitting: five training modules, about 12 hours of content, completed over roughly four weeks. Certification then runs for two years, with required refreshers.
Talk with a Certified Advisor before ordering or installing a fitting for a new or changing application, and any time movement, tight space, pressure, temperature, cleaning practices, or unusual geometry complicate the connection.
